New partnership tipped to be a winner for Murdoch research

Dr Bruce Hobbs, Professor John Yovich and Mr Howard Rosario celebrated the launch of the program.

Dr Bruce Hobbs, Professor John Yovich and Mr Howard Rosario celebrated the launch of the program.

An innovative partnership to fast track the development and commercialisation of exciting research through was launched at Murdoch University in February.

The Murdoch Westscheme Enterprise Partnership (MWEP) will see Westscheme, WA’s largest non-government superannuation fund, invest in Murdoch University projects demonstrating strong commercial potential. The partners will equitably share in the realized profits.

“To the best of our knowledge, this is the first initiative of its kind in Australia. This partnership has redefined the model for direct private investment in Australian public research to accelerate commercialisation of Intellectual Property for the mutual benefit of the partners,” said Dr Howard Carr, MWEP Investment Manager.

“We are aiming to develop MWEP into the premier university-based Intellectual Property commercialisation entity in Australia, by combining Murdoch’s enviable reputation as one of Australia’s leading industrial research universities with a ready pool of early-stage development funds“

“MWEP will provide the University with a distinct advantage within the increasingly competitive and commercially-focused R&D funding environment and provide Westscheme with equity in a diversified portfolio of next generation technologies”.

“For the corporate partners and their stakeholders including university researchers and retiring WA workers, MWEP is an innovative ladder of opportunity.”

“We invite interest media representatives to come and witness us climb the first rung.”

Executive Director for the Office of Science and Innovation and WA Chief Sciences, Professor Bruce Hobbs, launched the partnership at the function.
