Bridging the gap Ð mentoring in the Philippines Ð the case of street children

An overview on Fil-Mentoring and how mentoring is used as a channel of learning. The Fil-Mentoring solution is to create the diverse and dynamic environment of mentoring -- with all its forms of communication, wealth of information and range of social services -- among institutions offering assistance and direct support to children caught in a vicious cycle of exploitation, parental negligence, conflict, abandonment and other abuses.
Fil-mentors serve as links between education and the community, initiating a wide range of activities on academic and skills development

 

 



 


About the Author

Mardie Torres has been involved in youth development since 1983. His involvement in helping street children began in scouting where they helped various social institutions in Manila concerned with street children. He is the Executive Director and a Co-founder of Fil-Mentoring whose membership is composed of former scouts.
