The peaceful bushland setting makes the Murdoch University campus one of the most beautiful universities in Australia. The University hosts a number of key centres of excellence in energy studies, Asian studies and biotechnology. With 11,000 students and a strong international presence in South-East Asia the University is expanding its educational reach through innovative use of communication technologies.

Australia's first university to school peer tutoring programme, the STAR (Science & Technology Awareness Raising) Programme was established in 1994. Every week students from Murdoch University work with school teachers in local highschool classrooms helping students as peer tutors and mentors. More recently the programme has been extend via the internet to provide peer tutoring to school students living in regional and rural centres in Western Australia.
