The University hosts a number of key centres of excellence in energy
studies, Asian studies
and biotechnology.
With 11,000 students and a strong international presence in South-East
Asia the University is expanding its educational reach through innovative
use of communication technologies.
Australia's
first university to school peer tutoring programme, the STAR
(Science & Technology Awareness Raising) Programme was established
in 1994. Every week students from Murdoch University work with school
teachers in local highschool classrooms helping students as peer tutors
and mentors. More recently the programme has been extend via the internet
to provide peer tutoring to school students living in regional and rural
centres in Western Australia.
