The Peer Tutoring Programme at Monash University, Gippsland Campus provides a unique experience for students from different cultural backgrounds. This programme incorporates the participation of Monash University students in teaching or tutoring activities in primary and secondary classes. Local and international students from faculties such as Business, Arts and Science benefit from this programme. Students are encouraged to improve their communication skills through cultural presentations while new relationships are cultivated. The participating schools enjoy the warm cultural exchange with the involvement of students from all walks of life. Central to the success of the programme has been the voluntary nature of the participation by the international students and their willingness to undertake activities above their hectic lecture and study schedule.
This enriching programme is organised by the Language and Learning Unit, the Indonesian Section, Monash International and the Chaplain, with the cooperation of the participating primary and secondary schools in the Gippsland region.

Jenny Ramage currently is the Manager, International Office, Monash University, Gippsland Campus. She has had ten years' experience of working with international students and has a keen interested in creating opportunities for inter-cultural communication for international students during their studies in Australia. It is through the formal and informal contacts international and local students have with each other that a greater understanding and appreciation of other cultures are developed.
Robyn Masters currently is the Manager of the International Office, Monash University, Peninsula Campus. She has eight yearsÕ experience of working with international students and, since being appointed Manager at the Peninsula office has developed a particular interest in cross-cultural communication. Robyn currently is involved in the Peer Tutoring programme to develop opportunities for cross-cultural communication between students at Monash University and local primary and secondary schools.
